For the past 6 weeks, we have been rehearsing and rehearsing "The Grunch" by Beat By Beat Press, a new children's musical inspired by "The Grinch" by Dr. Seuss. In this story, a middle schooler feels left out of the group, because everyone else loves theatre. To hide his desire to be a part, he determines to mess up the school musical, stealing the sets, costumes, lights, and props the night before the show. But in the process, he discovers that being a part of a musical is an awesome place to be!
It is inspiring to spend hours with these kids as they practice, learn, struggle, overcome, and succeed on stage. My favorite part is comparing the kids who show up on Day 1 versus the kids who leave after the last show. They're not the same. They're better. They've discovered that they are capable. They are talented. They can shine.
