Night of the Stars + Rising Stars Auditions

Audtions: September 22-23
The Neighborhood Church
2702 SW I St, Bentonville

WHAT: Night of the Stars + Rising Stars Showcase is an auditioned talent showcase featuring acts from performers all over Northwest Arkansas.

WHO: We invite performers of all ages to audition as individuals or groups, including:

  • Vocal performers (musical theatre selections, pop, Country, jazz, etc.)

  • Instrumentalists (strings, wind, brass, percussion, piano, guitar, ukulele, etc.)

  • Ensembles (bands, orchestras, choirs, dance troupes, etc.)

  • Theatre (perform a song or a scene from a show with your cast)

  • Entertainers (jugglers, magicians, comedians, sketch comedy, puppeteers, ventriloquists, jump ropers, etc.)

  • Dancers (ballet, hip hop, tap, Irish dance, jazz, etc.)

HOW: Each performer will prepare a family friendly act, from content to outfit to movement, for audition (see below). When choosing an act, please look for age appropriate material for the performer. Those selected will have the opportunity to perform that act on stage at the main event in November.

WHEN: Open auditions will be held September 22-23. Performances will be November 13 (Rising Stars) and November 14-15 (Night of the Stars).

If selected, there will be no scheduled rehearsals, but there will be a REQUIRED tech/dress rehearsal to practice staging, entrances/exits, and sound/lighting cues. These will occur November 10-11, the Monday and Tuesday before the performances.

WHERE: Both the auditions and the performances will be held at The Neighborhood Church at 2702 SW I St, Bentonville.

10 Tips for a GREAT Night of the Stars and Rising Stars Showcase Audition!

1. Be prepared.

Know your material well and practice it well for auditions, not just for the performance. If we don't see a polished act at auditions, it will be hard for us to know what we're going to put on stage in the end.

2. Ensembles and groups are strongly encouraged.

We LOVE solo acts! And we are looking for more ensemble acts. An ensemble can be a duet or a large group. It can be a dance group, a band, a choir, a group number...get a group together and create something spectacular! A word of caution: be careful who you choose to perform with in an ensemble. Choose someone/people with a similar level of talent. We've had performers in the past who have auditioned an imbalanced act with one or more strong performers and one or more less strong performers that we haven't been able to offer a spot in the show. So be selective!

3. You CAN be in more than one act!

We would LOVE to see you in more than one act, if you choose to. The basic rule has been a performer can only have 1 solo act (though, in theory, exceptions can be made), however you are welcome to audition in ensemble/group acts as well! There is not a limit to how many ensemble acts you can perform in, unless the same ensemble is performing them. We aren't likely to put the same ensemble (more mostly same ensemble) in more than one act (but you never know!).

4. This isn't a talent show.

At least not in the way most of us think about talent shows. Only the very top acts will be offered a place in the show. That doesn't mean those who didn't get selected aren't talented! But it does mean that we're looking for something next level. It also means we're looking for classy entertainment, not goofy.

5. IMPRESS us!

We are looking for the top talent. We want to be amazed by what you can do...and we want the audience to be amazed as well! Think of "America's Got Talent" or "The Voice". We want to WANT to hit that button! But don't be intimidated by this either. If you don't think you'd be good enough for AGT or The Voice, audition anyway! We're not really looking for that level, but definitely still want to be impressed!

6. Choose something entertaining or familiar.

The most important people to consider when selecting your act is the audience. They're the ones buying tickets to see this show and they want to love it. So be careful when selecting your act to choose something that is really going to be fun or entertaining for them to watch. Obscure and unfamiliar selections can work IF they're also entertaining and impressive.

7. Keep it clean.

Lower Lights Theatre Company is a family focused community organization. That means everything we put on stage is going to be clean, wholesome, uplifting, and appropriate for the family, especially Night of the Stars which includes performers of all ages. When you're choosing your act, make sure there is no profanity or suggestive content at all. If you need to modify your act to make it clean, you can. But if we feel it is not appropriate, we will not cast it in the show.

8. Make sure it is age appropriate.

Consider if the act is age appropriate. If it is a vocal performance, do the lyrics fit the age of the person singing it? For example, a 12 year old singing about an adult romance situation isn't age appropriate, no matter how familiar, entertaining, and impressive the act is. All dance performances should not include suggestive movements, regardless of age.

9. Dress for success.

If your act is from a musical, dressing to reflect the show is encouraged. We're not talking Halloween style costumes, but performance costumes. Otherwise, dress well for your audition and show us what you plan to wear for your performance if you're cast in the show. Showing up in grungy clothes isn't going to impress us or help us envision your final performance. Make sure your outfit is modest and family friendly.

10. Have fun!

Auditions are always nerve wracking, and we know that! We've ALL been there. But try to have fun! Try to show us your very best version of your act. Smile! Speak up! Sing out! Shine on stage. We only get this one chance to see what you can do, so make it count!
